GASTAT: Number of employees in Saudi Arabia hits 14.59 mln in Q3 2022; 33% in Riyadh

The number of people employed in Saudi Arabia reached 14.59 million by the end of the third quarter of 2022, compared to 14.17 million during Q2 2022, labor market statistics of the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) indicated.

 

According to the authority, the number of expatriates employed reached 10.9 million, representing 75% of the total workers in the Kingdom. Meanwhile, the number of Saudi workers stood at 3.69 million, representing 25% of the total.

 

During the quarter, employment in Saudi Arabia was mainly concentrated in the private sector at 63.8%, or nearly 9.3 million workers. Domestic workers followed with 24.5% (nearly 3.58 million), and then the public sector at 11.7%.

About 9.78 million workers, representing 67% of the total, were covered by social insurance schemes, followed by household workers at 25%. Meanwhile, workers covered by the civil service regulations accounted for 8% of the total, as shown in the following table:

Riyadh had the largest number of workers, attracting as many as 4.78 million, or 33% of total employees.

 

Makkah came second with 2.03 million workers (14%) and the Eastern Province followed with 14%.

Survey results indicated that the majority of employees were aged between 35 and 39 years old, representing 13.9%, or 2.03 million, of total workers.

 

The lowest percentage of employees was between 15 and 19 years old, at 0.5% of the total.
