POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.2 billion in the week ended Jan. 7, compared to SAR 13.5 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 157.2 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors saw a decline last week, led by the education sector, which fell 42%. It was followed by furniture and transport sectors, retreating by 28% and 25%, respectively.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.75 billion, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.71 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.7 billion, or 33% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.6 billion, as indicated below:
