POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.7 billion in the week ended Jan. 14, compared to SAR 11.2 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 155.8 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Recreation and culture sector saw the steepest fall of 17%, followed by clothes and footwear, and, furniture dropping 12% and 11%, respectively.
On the other hand, education sector topped the list with an increase of 25%, followed by communications at 21% and transport at 8%.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.64 billion, followed by the food and beverages sector with SAR 1.57 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.53 billion, or 33% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.56 billion, as indicated below:
