POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.1 billion in the week ended Jan. 28, compared to SAR 9.7 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 141.1 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Education sector and food and beverages (F&B) sector increased the most by 36% and 14%, respectively.
Telecommunications came third by a 6% increase.
Construction materials sector saw the steepest fall of 21%, followed by hotels (5%) and furniture (4%).
During the week, consumer spending focused on the F&B sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.65 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.52 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.23 billion, or 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.43 billion, as indicated below:
