Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing Majid Al-Hogail said the ministry is working on improving and upgrading the quality of infrastructure works in Saudi cities at the level of various services, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The ministry has worked on many sustainable cities-related programs and initiatives, which is reflected in their development and advancement, Al-Hogail explained.
This is in a bid to provide a suitable environment for urban residents that includes all the necessary services and facilities, as well as enhancing their quality of life and facilitating access to various needs, he continued.
Furthermore, the ministry is working to promote the concept of sustainable cities, protect heritage culture, reduce the environmental impact of cities, while boosting accessibility to public facilities and green spaces.
This is aimed at delivering the highest levels of efficiency in achieving a quality of life that meets citizens’ aspirations. This is through spatial planning, refining the urban landscape and addressing all things related to improving the quality of life, Al-Hogail said.
He mentioned that the ministry launched several initiatives, including the program to improve the public realm with a package of initiatives that ensure the sustainability of cities, as well as enhancing the population’s lifestyle and raise the levels of quality of life.
For starters, this included preparing general policies for the urban planning system, updating the planning standards and legislation for Saudi cities, promptly issuing many municipal licenses and facilitating the journey for beneficiaries to obtain services.
