Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) announced today, March 14, expanding its long-haul fleet by purchasing up to 49 Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes.
The national airline is preparing to purchase 39 planes of the 787 Dreamliner model, with the possibility of adding 10 more.
This is to capitalize on the high efficiency, long-distance flying ability and superior flexibility of the Dreamliner planes, with the aim of developing its global operations in a sustainable manner.
The agreement will include the 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner models.
SAUDIA currently operates more than 50 Boeing aircraft in its long-haul network, including the 777-300ER (extended range), as well as the 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliners.
The additional Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft will complement SAUDIA’s existing fleet, enabling it to effectively take advantage of the capabilities of the 777 and 787 models.
This brings the number of aircraft announced today by both Riyadh Air and SAUDIA to 121 of the 787 Dreamliner model, marking the fifth-largest commercial order in terms of value in the history of Boeing.
According to the two carriers, this step will support the Kingdom's goal of providing distinguished aviation services to 330 million passengers and attracting 100 million visitors annually by 2030.
