The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) delegation recently concluded its visit to Riyadh following its discussion with Saudi Arabia on its bid to host World Expo 2030.

Riyadh Expo 2030 is scheduled from Oct. 1, 2030, until April 1, 2031, on a six million square meters (sqm) site in the north of Riyadh. The site is approximately a five-to-10-minute drive from King Khalid International Airport and close to King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center.

According to Riyadh Expo 2030 report, the site includes 3.38 million sqm of pilot space within a gated area, nearly 432,000 sqm for national pavilions and 2.62 million sqm for facilities support (logistics and transportation/parking).

Designed as a futuristic city, the site will be located around an old valley, combining the oasis and garden concepts of Riyadh and reflecting the Kingdom's vision to pioneer a sustainable future for cities and their communities.

Expo 2030's main theme will be “Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow”, which invites people to join together with courage and innovation to change the course of the planet's future towards a better tomorrow.

Within that central theme, there are three sub-themes: “A Different Tomorrow,” “Climate Action” and “Prosperity for All”, which reflect the aspiration to mobilize the global community towards an integrated and rejuvenated world that harnesses science and technology to serve a future for humanity.

The exhibition’s site will feature a rich program of recreational, cultural and sporting activities, from public parks to gaming spaces, mega theatres and sporting activities.

Riyadh is the catalyst for change in the Kingdom, embarking on an ambitious investment program to become the most energetic and sustainable destination, while joining the list of the world’s most livable cities, the report added.

The Saudi capital’s vibrant economy plays a key role in being a preferred destination for global companies and talents, while the social focus is on making it the main hub for health, education and research facilities.

Riyadh is rapidly advancing in the ranks of the most visited cities in the world through its landmarks, tourist attractions, vibrant cultural scene and open visa policy, the report indicated.

The city is ready to host visitors to the World Expo through the rapid expansion of infrastructure and smooth domestic and international interconnection to the proposed Expo 2030 site.

The event will be an ideal occasion for the Kingdom to share the story of unprecedented national transformation with other countries and peoples of the world, as Vision 2030 is a roadmap for a journey focused on nurturing a vibrant society, a thriving economy and an ambitious homeland.

A total of 226 participants are expected to participate, including international pavilions, global organizations, as well as informal participants.

A total of 170 member states will vote on the candidates and select the winning country to organize Expo 2030 during the 171st general assembly of BIE at the end of November 2023.
