Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) announced that the volume of water production increased by 45.4% from 8.8 million cubic meters per day (MCM/day) to 12.8 MCM/day in 2023.

The capacity of water transmission systems grew more than 63% from 8.7 MCM/day in 2016 to 14.2 MCM/day at the present time.

In a recent report, MEWA indicated that the National Water Strategy, the sector restructuring and the enactment of the new Water Law, the integration of roles between partners, the delivery of integrated management, the provision of innovative financing solutions and entering private-sector partnerships contributed to achieving remarkable successes in the water sector compared to 2016.

The efforts made resulted in raising the volume of strategic water storage by 60.2% from 13.6 MCM/day in 2016 to 21.8 MCM/day currently, the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, MEWA was able to extend the lengths of water distribution networks in various regions across the Kingdom, increase household water connections and expand the installation of digital water meters.
