Saudi ports reported a 13.34 % rise in containers handled to 681,700 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in April 2023, compared to 601,400 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers increased by 17% to 208,740 TEUs in April 2023, compared to above 178,500 TEUs the same period a year earlier. Meanwhile, inbound containers rose 3% to 208,100 TEUs, compared to April 2022.
Transshipment containers also increased by 20% to 264,850 TEUs, compared to 221,200 TEUs in April 2022.
Foodstuff cargo fell 1.3% in April to 1.51 million tons, from 1.53 million tons in April, 2022.
Saudi ports handled 24.97 million tons of cargo in April, a decrease of 6.63% compared to 26.74 million tons in the year-ago period. General cargo recorded 543,500 tons, dry bulk cargo (4.14 million tons), and liquid bulk cargo (13.03 million tons).
