The Iraqi Ministry of Oil stated that talks with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy included inviting Saudi firms, including Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Saudi Aramco), to invest in the oil and gas sector.

The move aims to develop Akkas gasfield in the Anbar province, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil said in a statement.

It hopes to reach an agreement boosting cooperation between the two countries, noting that Aramco is studying the cooperation mechanism in this regard.

"The ministry will announce the terms and the mechanisms in the event a final agreement is reached," the statement said.

Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani said Aramco will develop Akkas gasfield in the western Iraqi Anbar province, according to data available with Argaam.
