Census 2022: details of Saudi families housing by ownership type

The recently-issued Saudi Population Census 2022 revealed that the percentage of Saudi households owning homes reached 60.6% by the end of 2022, while those residing in rentals stood at 29.7%.

 

The census aims to provide complete and accurate statistics on the population. This is in addition to information on housing in all regions of the Kingdom as well as subgroups of the population.

 

Saudi families’ homeownership was 36.4% for mortgage-free ownership, 18.8% ownership through mortgage or loan, and 5.4% were unspecified mortgages.

 

According to the report, Hail topped the regions preferred by Saudi families for homeownership by 74.9%, followed by Qassim (72.1%), then Jazan (70.4%), while the ownership rate in Riyadh reached 60.7%.

The total number of household units in Saudi Arabia amounted to about 8.2 million units, including 4.2 million units for Saudi families and 4 million units for non-Saudi families.

 The number of houses owned by Saudi families reached about 2.52 million units out of 4.2 million units, with an ownership rate of 60.6%.

 

Meanwhile, the number of homes mortgage-free owned amounted to about 1.51 million units, and the following are the details of housing for Saudi families by tenure type in 2022:

The data also indicated that the percentage of total households owning houses in Saudi Arabia reached about 30% in 2022, equivalent to 2.46 million units.

 

On the other hand, rented housing during that period was about 54%, while the offered housing accounted for 14.7% of the total housing.

According to the Saudi census 2022, the total population in the Kingdom reached 32.2 million, with Saudis constituting 58.4%.
