Saudi ports reported a 7% rise in containers handled to 685,650 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in June 2023, compared to 642,020 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers grew by more than 10% to 211,570 in June, from 192,510 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased by 1% year-on-year (YoY) to 205,050, compared to 204,800 containers in June 2022.
The number of transshipment containers jumped by nearly 10% YoY to 269,030 in June. Foodstuff climbed by over 18% to 1.86 million tons from 1.57 million tons in June 2022.
The number of vessels increased by 5% to 993 from 948 in June 2022. Further, about 68,000 passengers were received at Saudi ports, a rise of over 58% YoY. The number of vehicles saw a 6% increase YoY to 68,510.
