Cabinet OKs new independent entity for regional affairs of Grand Mosque and Prophet's Mosque

The Saudi Cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, approved today, Aug. 8, the establishment of an independent body for the religious affairs of the General Presidency of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.

 

The new entity will report directly to the Saudi King.

 

The General Presidency of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque will be transformed into a general authority. It will be renamed as the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.

 

The authority will be a legal entity with financial and administrative independence.
