Saudi ports reported a 19% rise in containers handled to 753,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July 2023, compared to 633,920 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers grew by more than 35% to 250,000 in July, from 185,800 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased by 30% year-on-year (YoY) to 234,600, compared to 180,300 containers in July 2022.
The number of transshipment containers jumped to 268,900 in July, compared to 267,800 standard containers in the same month of 2022. Foodstuff fell by over 17% to 1.6 million tons.
The number of vessels increased by 3% to 1,017. Further, about 76,500 passengers were received at Saudi ports, a rise of over 33% YoY. The number of vessels saw a 14% increase YoY to 91,100.
