Oil tanks
The American Petroleum Institute (API) said that US oil inventories fell by 2.418 million barrels during the week ended Aug. 18.
Gasoline stocks increased by 1.89 million barrels last week, while distillate stocks decreased by 153,000 barrels, the Institute said in its weekly report.
On Aug. 23, the US Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release official data on inventories, amid expectations that crude stocks will fall by 2.9 million barrels.
Brent crude futures for October delivery fell 0.5%, or 43 cents, to settle at $84.03 a barrel. WTI crude for October delivery decreased by 0.6%, or 48 cents, to record $79.64 per barrel.
