Overview of Saudi Arabia's self-sufficiency ratio for agricultural products in 2022

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) recently issued a report on agricultural statistics for 2022, which includes self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) for key agri-products.

 

Dairy recorded the highest SSR of 118% among animal products in the Kingdom. It was followed by table eggs with 117% and fish with 48%.

As for the plant products, dates came first with 124% SSR and 1.61 million tons local production in 2022. Meanwhile, tomatoes and onions recorded 67% and 44% SSR, respectively.

The total area of ​​organic farming in Saudi Arabia reached 19,119 hectares, while the organic cultivation of fruit crops (except dates) came first with 11,536 hectares, or 60.3%, followed by the area of ​​organic cultivation of date palms at 20.8%.

 

Organic farming production reached 95,300 tons in 2022, and fruit (except dates) accounted for 70.9% of the total organic agriculture production.

The Kingdom's total agricultural imports amounted to 29.4 million tons in 2022, of which 42.5% were grains. 

 

Meanwhile, agricultural exports amounted to about 3.69 million tons, of which 20.1% were dairy products, eggs and natural honey.
