Saudi Arabia’s merchandise imports grew by 2% year-on-year (YoY) to almost SAR 178.9 billion in Q2 2023, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).


On a quarterly basis, merchandise imports fell by 8%, or nearly SAR 15.2 billion.

The YoY increase in the Kingdom’s Q2 2023 imports was driven by machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment and parts thereof, as well as vehicles, aircraft, vessels and associated transport equipment, which dominate 21% and 17%, respectively, of the total.

China topped the Kingdom's list of exporting countries with SAR 37.4 billion, accounting for 21% of the total value of imports in Q2 2023.


The US and UAE followed, at 8% and 6%, respectively.
