Saudi national carriers paid SAR 58 million in compensations to passengers during 2021 and 2022, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

This comes in line with the executive regulations to protect the rights of passengers.

Compensations were paid for many cases, including flight delays, lost or damaged baggage, and flight cancellations, GACA said in a statement, stressing its dedication to ensuring the rights of passengers affected by the carriers’ non-compliance.

This measure reaffirms GACA’s full commitment to its regulatory and supervisory role in the aviation sector, as well as the achievement of the public interest through the impartial implementation of the regulations to achieve traveler satisfaction and improve the travel experience in the Kingdom.

Last August, GACA approved new passenger protection guidelines to replace the existing customer regulations, according to data compiled by Argaam

To be applicable as of Nov. 20, 2023, the new guidelines will warrant the protection of passenger rights and improve the services provided.
