The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) oil output rose for a second consecutive month in September, led by supply increases in Nigeria and Iran despite the US sanctions, according to a Reuters survey today, Oct. 2.
Last month, OPEC pumped 27.73 million barrels per day (bpd), up 120,000 bpd from August. Production in August rose for the first time since February.
The rise in September was led by an increase in Nigeria’s oil exports, without any major disruption to shipments, boosting output by 110,000 bpd, the survey showed.
Production in Iran rose to 3.15 million bpd, with output hitting the highest level since 2018.
OPEC’s output is still 700,000 bpd below its target, mainly because Nigeria and Angola cannot pump the agreed supplies.
