POS device
The point-of-sale POS transactions reached nearly SAR 12.15 billion in the week ended Oct. 7, compared to almost SAR 13.62 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank SAMA showed.
The data showed that about 189.42 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Education and Jewellery were the sole gainers in terms of the value of POS transactions, by 11% and 30%, respectively.
Meanwhile, Furniture led decliners, with 29%, followed by Electronics & Electric Appliances (26%) and Healthcare sector (15%).
During the week, consumer spending was focused on Food and Beverages (F&B) with nearly SAR 2 billion, followed by Restaurants and Cafes (SAR 1.75 billion).

By city, Riyadh topped in terms of POS transaction value with almost SAR 4.04 billion, or 33% of total sales. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.72 billion, as indicated below:
