POS weekly transactions reach SAR 11.2 bln: SAMA

POS device 


The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.15 billion in the week ended Oct. 14, compared to about SAR 12.15 billion the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 183.77 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors declined in POS transactions, led by education falling by 35%, followed by jewelry (25%) as well as recreation & culture (14%).  

 

During the week, consumer spending was focused on the food and beverages sector, with nearly SAR 1.83 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes (SAR 1.69 billion).

Riyadh led in POS transaction value, accounting for nearly SAR 3.74 billion, or 33.6% of total sales. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.57 billion, as shown below:
