Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) received approval from its main buyer, Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), to start implementing the expansion of the Rabigh Power Plant by adding 1.2 gigawatts of combined cycle units.

The Rabigh Power Plant expansion project is aligned with its goals to develop and expand its generation capabilities, Saudi Electricity said in a statement to Tadawul.

The company added that it is constantly evaluating opportunities to develop and expand existing projects to enhance generation capabilities, meet the needs of the electrical system, and ensure the reliability of power supplies in accordance with the requirements of its main customer.

Saudi Electricity looks forward to working with SPPC to sign energy conversion agreements (ECAs) in relation to the project’s additional capacity.

Any relevant developments will be announced in due course, the company said, noting that the financial impact of this development cannot currently be determined.
