Container handling rises 5% to 741,910 TEUs in October: MAWANI

Saudi ports reported a 5.31% rise in containers handled to 741,910 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in October 2023, compared to 704,490 TEUs in the same month last year.

 

In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers rose by 9.72% to 224.820 in October, from 204,900 in the prior-year period.

 

The number of inbound containers also increased by 5.32% year-on-year (YoY) to 226,970, compared to 215,500 containers in October 2022.

 

The number of transshipment containers rose by nearly 2.12% YoY to 290,110 in October. Foodstuff dropped by nearly 34.61% YoY to 1.61 million tons.

 

About 59,810 passengers were received at Saudi ports in October, a rise of 35.11% YoY. Further, the number of vehicles saw a 17.13% increase YoY to 109,650 from 93,610 in the same period last year.

 

Meanwhile, the number of vessels improved by 5.46% YoY to 1,062 from 1,007.
