POS weekly transactions at SAR 11.5 bln: SAMA

POS device


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.5 billion in the week ended Nov. 11, compared to roughly SAR 12.78 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 185.87 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent consumer spending using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Most sectors reported a negative performance, except for telecommunications, which posted a 1% weekly increase.

 

Clothes and footwear topped the worst-performing sectors, retreating by 15%, followed by hotels (14%) and food & beverages (12%).

 

Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector for the week, with nearly SAR 1.82 billion, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.75 billion, as follows:

Riyadh led in terms of POS transactions’ value by city, accounting for nearly SAR 3.88 billion, or 33.75%, of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.57 billion, as shown below:
