The Transport General Authority (TGA) granted Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) a trial operating license for the hydrogen train.
This license is the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia and the MENA region, TGA said.
The hydrogen train enhances the sustainability of railway transport, strengthens the Kingdom’s logistics position, and delivers the Saudi Green Initiative and net zero carbon targets.
The train is driven by emission-free energy generation. It helps achieve the National Strategy for Transport and Logistic Services, which aims to cut carbon remissions in transport activities by 25% until 2030.
In October, SAR signed a deal with France’s Alstom to conduct hydrogen train tests for the first time in Saudi Arabia and the MENA region, Argaam reported.
