A total of 115 countries will take part in the forthcoming edition of the Future Minerals Forum, slated for January 2024, with an eye to reach 150 participants, the forum’s Executive Director Ali Al Mutairi said, pointing to the attendance of some African countries and some G20 members.

Speaking to Argaam on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum’s press conference, the executive highlighted that the organization is working with all partners, government agencies and corporate parties to conclude agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).

According to Al Mutairi, the number of agreements inked over the past years during the forum’s editions has reached 60 agreements. This will in turn contribute to bringing more momentum to the deals to be sealed during the forthcoming Future Minerals Forum.

The forum aims to follow in the footsteps of the Saudi ministerial meeting that began early this year, during which four initiatives were put forward amongst other meeting outcomes. This implies a clear message that all discussions are meant to form a basis for actions, according to Al Mutairi.

He indicated that all four initiatives were outlined, namely developing a strategy for critical minerals extending from Africa to West and Central Asia. The second initiative entails producing green minerals and applying the best technologies to process and manufacture minerals in a technical way that ensures the reduction of carbon emissions.

The third initiative is related to establishing excellence centers and developing human capabilities and investments in this field. Meanwhile, the fourth initiative is related to adopting environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards in the metals and mining industry, Al Mutairi stated.

Accordingly, work is underway and action teams have been formed, consisting of many specialists and leaders in this field, in partnership with multiple governments and United Nations organizations, in addition to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), business associations, and major mining firms, he added.
