Saudi ports reported a 17% rise in containers handled to 737,530 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in November 2023, compared to 631,160 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers rose by 16% to 212,320 in November, from 183,020 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased by 19% year-on-year (YoY) to 224,320, compared to 189,030 containers in November 2022.
The number of transshipment containers rose by 16.2% YoY to 300,990 in November. Handled cargo fell by 6.13% YoY to 23.72 million tons, from 25.3 million tons in the prior-year period. Foodstuff also dropped by 33.1% YoY to 1.27 million tons.
About 78,300 passengers were received at Saudi ports, a rise of 6.3% YoY. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles saw a 0.84% decrease YoY to 82,700. The number of vessels improved by 2.1% YoY to 1,016 in November, from 995 vessels in November 2022.
