The official gazette Umm Al-Qura published on Dec. 29 the regulatory arrangements for the Saudi Electronic Games and Sports Authority, which the Cabinet approved to establish this month.

The authority aims to regulate the sector, enhance its position, sustainability, and attractiveness, as well as address its challenges.

The authority has a legal personality as well as financial and administrative independence and is organizationally linked to the Prime Minister. It will be headquartered in Riyadh and may establish branches or offices in the Kingdom when needed.

Under the arrangements, the authority will propose draft laws and regulations related to the sector, as well as supervise the implementation of the sector’s strategy.

In addition, the authority will develop standards and procedures for the sector, as well as strategies, policies, plans, programs, and initiatives related to the sector.

The authority will also issue licenses to organize e-games and sports events as well as set the necessary controls and requirements.

It will collect, update, and analyze the sector's data, as well as establish database for the sector, in addition to coordinating with the relevant entities to provide the authority with the necessary information, data, or reports.

The authority will conclude relevant agreements and memorandums of understanding with the relevant authorities inside and outside the Kingdom as per the statutory procedures.

It will cooperate with research centers and think tanks locally and internationally to achieve its goals.
