Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. (TAQA) announced its participation in the consortium that won Juranah Independent Strategic Water Reservoir Plant project in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the company pointed out that Saudi Water Partnership Co. (SWPC) selected the most suitable proposal filed by the consortium, which includes Vision International Investment Co. (Vision Invest) and Gulf Investment Corporation.

The Juranah Project will be developed under build, own, operate, transfer (BOOT) model. TAQA will lead the operations and maintenance (O&M) activities through a specialized standalone O&M company, co-owned by Vision Invest.

The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately AED 1.5 billion, 80% of which will be financed through loans. TAQA will own a 35% stake in the project company, and 50% in the O&M company.

As per the project agreement, the consortium will build, own and operate the water reservoir infrastructure for a period of 30 years, and then transfer the ownership to SWPC .

The primary goal of the project is to meet the emergency demand for water across the Kingdom, and to fulfill the peak period demand in Makkah and Madinah during the Hajj season.

The total storage capacity of the strategic reservoirs is two million cubic meters of water. In addition, operational reservoirs with a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters will be constructed under a BOOT model to support the distribution of potable water.

The project actual operation will start in Q2 2027, Khaled Alqureshi, CEO of SWPC noted, stressing that the project will contribute to reducing electrical energy consumption, as it includes solar energy units to reduce dependence on the public network.

It 100% saves stored water, reduces operational costs, and supports local content by increasing localization rates in business and human resources, teh CEO added.
