POD device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 14 billion for the week ended Dec. 30, compared to SAR 10.7 billion in the previous week.
Data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that total POS transactions amounted to around 198.19 million for the week.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, all sectors surged in terms of transaction value, led by the education with an 81% increase, followed by the telecommunication sector (52%).
Consumer spending was focused on the beverage and food sector, totaling SAR 2.25 billion during the week. The restaurants and café sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.98 billion, as follows:

Geographically, Riyadh led in terms of POS value during the week with approximately SAR 4.64 billion, representing 33.2% of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.9 billion, as follows:
