US gasoline, distillate stock surge last week

US crude oil inventories plunged more than forecasts for the week ended Dec. 29, while gasoline and distillate inventories rose during the same period, data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed. 

  
Crude oil stocks fell 5.5 million barrels by the end of the week, versus expectations of a 3.3 million barrels decrease.

  
Last week, the US gasoline stocks rose 10.9 million barrels, while distillate stocks were up by about 10.1 million barrels.
