Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) transported more than 11.2 million passengers across its Eastern and Northern networks, the Haramain High Speed Railway and Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro Line in 2023, marking a surge of 55% from 2022.

During the same year, the number of passenger train trips rose 25% on an annual basis to over 32,000, the state-run SPA reported, citing a SAR statement.

SAR transported 24.7 million tons of goods and minerals in 2023, an increase of 6% from 2022. This led to a reduction of over two million truck trips, saving more than three million barrels of fuel and decreasing hazardous and carbon emissions.
