Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) received on Jan. 31 the commercial operation certificate from the Saudi Water Partnership Co. (SWPC) for Jeddah Althaniya Water Co.

The certificate is related to the operation of the sewage treatment plant in Jeddah, with a treatment capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day. Notably, the commercial operation of the plant is retroactively effective Oct. 1, 2023.

In a statement to Tadawul, the company said it holds a 45% stake in Jeddah Althaniya, the project's developing company.

The main project agreement between Jeddah Althaniya and SWPC commenced on Feb. 25, 2019, and is set to conclude after 25 years from the date of commercial operation.

The financial impact of the project's operation will reflect on the company's financials as of the fourth quarter of 2023, the statement added.

The project is geared towards meeting the increasing demand for sewage water treatment in Jeddah, employing high-efficiency and energy-competitive technologies. The plant is designed to enable the reuse of water and sludge for industrial and commercial purposes.

Emphasizing its positive contributions, the company underscores that the project plays a vital role in enhancing environmental sustainability, improving resource efficiency, harnessing private sector expertise in water and agriculture systems, fostering local content development, and aligning with the developmental objectives outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
