The Saudi ports reported a 19.5% fall in the number of containers handled to 557,700 TEUs in April, compared to 693,100 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers rose by nearly 3.7% to 216,500 TEUs in April, from 208,700 TEUs in the prior-year period.
Meanwhile, inbound containers fell by nearly 0.7% to 218,000 TEUs in April, from 219,000 TEUs a year before.
Transshipments dropped 53.5% to 123,200 TEUs, compared with 264,900 in the same period of 2023.
The total cargo handled rose by 8.6% to 27.1 million tons, compared with 25 million tons a year earlier.
The general cargo reached 839,400 tons, while liquid bulk cargo (4.1 million tons) and solid bulk cargo (16.1 million tons).
The ports recorded an unloading rate of 657,800 cattle heads, marking an increase of 43.5% compared with 458,300 in the same period of 2023.
The maritime traffic featured a decrease by 8.3%, reaching 910 vessels. Meanwhile, the number of passengers dropped by 35.9% to 55,300, compared with 86,200 last year.
The number of cars dropped by 30.6% to 69,800.
