Saudi Arabia, US sign deal for outer space exploration, peaceful utilization

Saudi Arabia and the United States signed today a strategic cooperation agreement focused on the exploration and peaceful utilization of outer space, Saudi Press Agency report.

 

The agreement aims to enhance their cooperation in the field of space and scientific exploration, increase joint investment in various commercial activities, and establish a comprehensive legal framework that facilitates cooperation between them for the exchange of expertise and the development of joint programs.

 

It outlines areas of joint work between the two parties, which include space and earth sciences, aeronautics, space missions, education, and many other areas of mutual interest.

 

Mohammed Altamimi, CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, underscored the significance of this strategic partnership in identifying areas of mutual interest and fostering collaborative endeavors.

 

This partnership aims to enhance national capabilities in aeronautics, space exploration, and space applications. By capitalizing on available opportunities, Saudi Arabia is poised to achieve scientific and technological progress while strengthening its role as a key player in the space arena regionally and globally, he said.

 

The agreement, which was signed by Al-Tamimi, and NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, outlines collaborative programs for various purposes. These programs include flight operations, balloon campaigns, scientific data exchange, joint workshops, and more. The agreement signifies a significant step toward strengthening cooperation and progress in the space sector.
