Saudi Arabia’s merchandise imports increased 3% year-on-year (YoY) to almost SAR 70.3 billion, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

Meanwhile, merchandise imports rose 11%, or nearly SAR 6.7 billion, month-on-month (MoM), as follows:

Imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment, and their parts accounted for 26.7%, or SAR 18.8 billion, of the total Saudi imports in May.

 

Vehicles, aircraft, vessels, and associated transport equipment came second at 12.9%.

Saudi Arabia’s imports came mainly from China in May, valued at SAR 17.56 billion or 25% of the total.

 

The US and the UAE followed with SAR 6.56 billion and SAR 4.54 billion, respectively.

 

The top 10 exporters to Saudi Arabia accounted for almost 66%, or SAR 46.6 billion, of the total imports in May, as shown below:
