The Riyadh Metro is expected to open early next year instead of this year, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing quoted sources.

The operating company will hold meetings in November to study offering discounted ticket packages for those who own one car or less, or for those who own two cars or more to encourage the use of the metro, the sources said.
News24 website recently reported last July, citing an official source, that Saudi Arabia is gearing up to launch Riyadh Metro in 2024 upon completion of on-site works, according to Argaam’s data.
Riyadh Metro extends 176 kilometers in length and has 85 stations. It is complemented by a bus network that operates via 24 routes, stretching 1,083 kilometers and featuring 776 stops.
In 2013, Riyadh Metro’s project tenders were awarded to three global consortiums at a total value of about $22.5 billion (SAR 84.4 billion).
