Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) stopped granting new licenses for motorcycle riders to deliver orders received through online applications, Spokesman Saleh Al-Zuwayed said.

The suspension will remain in place until new regulations are issued, he added.

Companies who hold motorcycle licenses to provide services through delivery apps obtained them during the experimental organizational environment stage, which has now ended, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.

The Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser approved the regulations of the light goods transportation on roads, Argaam reported earlier.

This was to regulate the transport of goods on the roads in light transport vehicles, whose total weight does not exceed 3,500 kg. This will contribute to raising the efficiency and quality of the transport of goods in all patterns, supporting logistical movement, supply chains, preserving the environment, raising the safety level and improving services provided to beneficiaries as well as organizing the relationship between all parties to the transportation process.
