Saudi Arabia’s grain output hits 1.7M tons in 2023

Production of grain crops in the Kingdom amounted to 1.75 million tons in 2023, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) revealed in its recently issued report on agricultural statistics.

 

According to the report, the total area planted with grain crops in 2023 amounted to about 331,000 hectares, of which around 323,000 hectares in harvested area.

 

The wheat crop topped the list with 63.4% of the total area planted with grains, with a production volume of 1.31 million tons.

Al Jouf led the list by region in grain crop production with about 400,000 tons, as the cultivated area in the province amounted to about 62,000 hectares.

 

Riyadh came in second, with a production volume of about 356,000 tons, and a cultivated area of nearly 57.9,000 hectares.

Statistics showed that the total production of organic crop agriculture in Saudi Arabia amounted to about 95.3,000 tons in 2023. Meanwhile, perennial trees accounted for 70.9% of the total.

 

Meanwhile, the total land area dedicated to organic agriculture neared 23.4,000 hectares in 2023. Organic agriculture for perennial trees (excluding palm trees) came in first place, amounting to 11,500 hectares (52%).

The bulletin also showed that the total volume of agricultural imports to the Kingdom reached 16.9 million tons in 2023, with grains accounting for the largest share (69%).

 

The total volume of agricultural exports amounted to about 447,000 tons, with exports of fruits and others accounting for 70.3% of the total.
