SPPC announces winning bidders for conventional IPP projects

The Saudi Power Procurement Co. (SPPC) announced the winning bidders for the Rumah-1, Rumah-2, Al-Nairyah-1, and Al-Nairyah-2 conventional independent power producer (IPP) projects, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

 

The first consortium, which comprises Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC), ACWA Power, and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), was awarded the contracts for the Rumah-1 power plant, with a capacity of 1.8 GW. SEC is a managing and technical member, while ACWA Power and KEPCO are consortium members.

The second consortium, including Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. (TAQA), Japan's JERA, and Al-Bawani Co., secured the contracts for the Rumah-2 power plant, with a capacity of 1.8 GW. TAQA is a managing and technical member, JERA is a technical member, and Al-Bawani is a consortium member.

 

The third consortium, comprising SEC, ACWA Power, and KEPCO, was awarded the contracts for the Al-Nairyah-1 power plant, with a capacity of 1.8 GW. SEC is a managing and technical member, while ACWA Power and KEPCO are consortium members.

 

The fourth consortium, which includes TAQA, JERA, and Al-Bawani, won the contracts for the 1.8 GW Nairyah 2 power plant. TAQA is a managing and technical member, JERA is a technical member, and Al-Bawani is a consortium member.

 

SPPC will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement with each project company on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis, with investments of around SAR 30 billion ($8 billion). The projects will adhere to the localization and local content requirements and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s economy.

 

The projects will contain the latest H/J Class gas turbines of the highest efficiency in combined cycle operation and will enable the utilization of carbon capture technologies. These projects will supply power to approximately three million residential units annually.
