King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud launched today the Riyadh Metro project.
The project is considered the backbone for Riyadh city public transportation network and a key element in its transport system.
According to Argaam data, Riyadh Metro spans 176 kilometers and includes 85 stations. The metro project integrates with the Riyadh Bus Network, which features 24 routes totaling 1,083 kilometers and includes 776 stations.
The contracts for the Riyadh Metro project were awarded in 2013 to three global consortia at a total value of approximately $22.5 billion (about SAR 84.4 billion).
The six tracks of the Riyadh Metro will be operated sequentially, starting with the operation of these three tracks: Track No. 1: Blue, Track No. 4: Yellow, and Track No. 6: Purple, on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, Track No. 2: Red, and Track No. 5: Green, will be operated on Dec. 15, 2024.
Finally, Track No. 3: Orange will be operated on Jan. 5, 2025.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed his sincere gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his generous support and patronage of the Riyadh Public Transport Project.
“The Riyadh Public Transport Project, which spans the Metro and bus networks, is the culmination of concerted efforts made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the outcome of his visionary leadership, while serving as the Chairman of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh, the predecessor of RCRC,” said the Crown Prince.
