US markets on official holiday today

US markets are closed today, Nov. 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving official holiday, and will resume work tomorrow.

The Dow Jones index ended yesterday’s trading down by 0.3%, or 138 points, to 44,722 points. Elsewhere, the S&P 500 also fell 0.4% to 5,998 points.

The Nasdaq, similarly, contracted by 0.6% to 19,060 points.

This came after official data showed that annual inflation in personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index — the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge — accelerated to 2.3% in October, from 2.1% in the previous month, in line with expectations.

This came a day after the release of the gross domestic product (GDP) data, which showed the pace of US economic growth slowed to 2.8% in the second reading for the third quarter of the year, from 3% in the previous quarter.

Despite this slowdown, the recorded growth pace indicated the continued momentum of the world's largest economies, despite the monetary tightening cycle in the post-pandemic era.
