The 113th Ministerial Meeting held in Kuwait, on Dec. 15, officially approved rebranding the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) into the Arab Energy Organization (AEO).
Saudi Arabia had proposed renaming and restructuring the organization.
This decision gives the green light to the organization’s General Secretariat to continue its efforts in developing its activities and operations, following the approval of the first phase of the project, which included the proposed amendments to the organization's founding agreement. The substantial proposed amendments will come into effect once they are fully adopted in accordance with the regulatory procedures of each member state.
The General Secretariat indicated that implementing the decision required a thorough study and comprehensive evaluation of the developments and challenges experienced by the energy sector at national, regional, and global levels, particularly in the recent years.
