The number of jobless claims in the US fell to their lowest level in eight months, in the week ended Dec. 28, 2024, reflecting resilience in the labor market of the world’s largest economy.
Data from the US Department of Labor showed initial jobless claims decreased by 9,000 to 211,000. The previous week’s reading was adjusted upwards to 220,000.
The four-week moving average of jobless claims, a steadier indicator of labor market trends, fell by 3,500 to 223,250.
