Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has criticized rival tech giant Apple for stagnant innovation and arbitrary regulations.
In an interview on the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, the billionaire attributed the iPhone's significance to its role in making mobile phone ownership omnipresent worldwide, CNBC reported.
Zuckerberg said that Apple is using this platform to set unfair rules. He said Apple has not been very innovative lately, not since Steve Jobs released the iPhone, which was almost two decades ago.
He attributed declining iPhone sales to consumer disinclination to upgrade due to a lack of substantial advancements in newer models.
He believes Apple seeks to increase revenue by exerting pressure on consumers, including the imposition of a 30% developer tax and the promotion of accessory purchases.
They make things like AirPods, which are great, but they have completely blocked anyone's ability to create something that can connect to an iPhone in the same way, he explained.
Apple defends its actions by asserting a commitment to user privacy and security. However, Zuckerberg believes these concerns can be addressed through protocol enhancements, such as improved security measures and the implementation of robust encryption.
The CEO believes Meta's may profits double if Apple stopped making up all these rules, criticizing the Apple Vision Pro headset for not selling well in the US.
