Award ceremony
The Hajj and Umrah Services Conference and Exhibition 2024 witnessed the launch of the Makkah Taxi service, introduced by the General Transport Center under the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC), with the first operating license under the contract concession system in Makkah.
The service entered phased implementation starting today, Jan. 14, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The service will be available 24/7, with 47 locations across Makkah, especially near key stations and around the Haram area, ensuring easy access and efficient service for users' needs, the SPA reported.
Saleh Al-Rasheed, CEO of RCMC, emphasized the use of advanced global technologies and eco-friendly features in all Makkah Taxi vehicles. The fleet operates on hybrid and electric systems, aligning with Makkah’s vision as a smart, sustainable city while enhancing the experience of pilgrims, residents, and visitors.
Makkah is the first city in the Kingdom to adopt the contract concession model for its transportation services.
Makkah Taxi will be operated by licensed providers managing approved vehicle fleets, ensuring premium transportation standards. Users can choose from various payment methods, including cash and credit cards, while fares will follow government-approved rates calculated through electronic meters.
During the event, Transport Minister Saleh Al-Jasser officially handed over the operating license to the service provider on the project launch platform. The fleet is expected to grow to approximately 1,800 vehicles by the end of 2025, improving transportation services and meeting growing demand in Makkah.
