The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture said that Saudi Arabia’s annual production of dates exceeded 1.9 million tons in 2023.
The number of palm trees in all regions rose to 37.1 million, of which about 31.8 million produce the fruit, the ministry said in a statement.
Al-Qassim Province came first in date production across all varieties at more than 578,100 tons, in addition to the total number of palm trees, including productive ones, exceeding 10.7 million.
Riyadh ranked second, with production surpassing 453,100 tons. Madinah, Eastern Province, Aseer and Tabuk followed with 343,000 tons, 258,700 tons, 61,000 tons and 55,600 tons, respectively. The remaining regions produced varying quantities of different date varieties.
Al-Qassim topped in terms of palm trees in the Kingdom at more than 10.7 million, with over 9.7 million are productive.
Riyadh followed with more than 8 million trees, as over 6.8 million were productive. Madinah's palm trees exceeded 8 million, with more than 6.4 million productive. The Eastern Province had more than 4 million trees, with over 3.9 million productive. Other regions followed with varying numbers of palm and fruitful trees.
