MAWANI says cargo throughput up 14% to 321M tons in 2024

The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) reported a 14.45% increase in cargo throughput to 320.8 million tons in 2024 compared to 300.5 million tons in 2023.

 

Outbound containers rose by 9% to 2.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), compared to 2.6 million TEUs in 2023. Inbound containers also increased by 14% to 2.98 million TEUs, compared to 2.62 million TEUs in 2023.

 

Overall container throughput reached 7.52 million TEUs, down 11% from 8.44 million TEUs in 2023.

 

Transshipment containers declined 47% to 1.72 million TEUs, compared to 3.23 million TEUs in 2023.

 

Vessel traffic declined by 5% to 11,600 ships in 2024, compared to 12,130 in 2023. The number of passengers also fell 27% year-on-year (YoY) to 736,180 last year. Meanwhile, vehicles decreased by 4% YoY to 1.1 million in 2024, from 1.14 million in 2023.
