The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture revealed that Saudi Arabia has achieved 61% self-sufficiency in red meat production, which reached more than 270,000 tons in 2023.

The Kingdom is witnessing a significant increase in the production of red meat, which significantly helps support local production and enhance food security, the Ministry said in a statement.

It added that this reflects the ongoing efforts to increase local production and reduce dependence on imports, adding that this abundance comes as a result of developing the livestock sector, supporting local breeders, and adopting the latest technologies in livestock production.

This reflects ongoing efforts to boost local production and reduce dependence on imports, the Ministry said, adding that the increase is due to the development of the livestock sector, support to local breeders, and adoption of the latest technologies in animal production.

The livestock sector is one of the main pillars in strengthening local markets and achieving food security, as the Kingdom has more than 20.6 million heads of sheep, more than 7.4 million goats, in addition to about 502,000 heads of cows, and more than 2.2 million heads of camels, the statement added.
