Job openings in the US increased in January, but labor demand is likely to slow due to President Donald Trump’s policies threatening recession.
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released today, March 11, showed that job openings rose by 232,000 to 7.74 million in January, compared to a downwardly revised 7.50 million in December 2024.
This exceeded Reuters' analyst forecasts, which estimated 7.63 million job openings for January.
Meanwhile, hiring increased by 19,000 to 5.4 million during the month.
While the number of resignations rose to approximately 3.3 million in January, layoffs declined by 34,000 to 1.63 million.
